Happy 2nd Birthday Daisy

Today is my granddaughter Daisy’s 2nd birthday. My daughter Emily wrote a birthday letter to Daisy and I was so touched that I decided to write one as well…
Dearest Daisy,
This has been your first complete year with no medical challenges, just growing and having fun. I am so grateful for the fun times I was a part of with you this year.
This year you finally met your great-grandmother, Grammy Daley. She is indeed quite “great” at 87 years old. She was mesmerized by you in every way. She loves to watch you learning to walk and how you played with her walker. The thing she loved the most though was watching you with your Mom. Em has always had a special place in her heart and she is so happy that Emily is a Mom, her fondest wish ever.
This year you spent some time on Nantasket Beach with Mamie and Mom and Dad. I was so happy to have you here and introduce you to Nantasket Beach. Just like your Mom and godfather Fred, you reveled in the waves and the cold water at the beach, no sissies allowed. Like your Mom you didn’t even mind a little bit of sand in your sandwich.
You met cousin-friends at the Carousel and even met Cinderella.
While you visited, we had a couple of nights to ourselves while Mom and Dad went out. We played with your “musical” purse and my pots and pans ~ they have not had that much attention in years!
We had multiple visits through the year, with each monthly visit surprising me with new developments. You are running, kissing (my fave) and talking with an alternating sweet as sugar voice to a bit of a deep growl(?) And you say Mamie. We FaceTime (new to both of us) and we each kiss the phone thinking we are kissing each other’s cheek. Lol!
The big build up this year was for Christmas, hoping you grasped the fact that Santa brought gifts in a reindeer driven sled. I am not sure you understood this fairy tale but you sure did love the bright lights and tiered packages for you. You loved climbing on them the most but after a little help from your friends opening them, you generously gave hugs and kisses to the giver.
Our next milestone was when we had visit (just us) at Mamie’s. Mom and Dad went on a trip and I GOT YOU ALL TO MYSELF. We had a ball!
And although you missed Mom & Dad, you really never cried. We played, went for walks and watched Doc McStuffin. You were an angel as we read multiple stories, drew pictures everyday and listened to Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and Disney movies music. After all it is my responsibility to introduce you to American Musicals. When you left there was a huge hole in my heart and my life for quite awhile.
So this brings up to today, your 2nd Birthday. What a whilrwind year this has been for you. I am blessed to be part of it and will forever be grateful.
I also have had the distinct joy to see my daughter, Em, be an incredible Mother, which has been her “dream come true”. It is a surreal experience to see my baby girl/ fierce woman raising a strong powerful girl~ I am loving every minute. Emily, you are raising her with a sweetness I adore and a compassion towards everyone but you are also raising her to be a woman to listen to.
Oh what a year of joy, I am looking forward to this next year and what magic it holds for all of us ~
Xo, Mamie
