The Steps I Took: Guatemala 2014, Part 1
Jul 08 2014 ·0“Never doubt that a small group of concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
~Margaret Mead
My experience in Guatemala last year was so profound, that I decided to volunteer again this year with Team Kelly Kole through Catalyst Resources International. I really wasn’t sure what I would take away this year. Certainly, I knew more of what to expect as far as the conditions, the food and the poverty. What I didn’t expect was all of the questions I had about the future of the children, the education of young women and the corruption in the government.
As best I could, I’ve tried to convey my experiences and feelings about this year’s trip through my words and pictures. Lots of pictures…
A Poem & A Painting: Dress Yourself In Love
Jun 30 2014 ·0Best of Posh Palettes: Dream Closet
Apr 10 2014 ·0This week while I’m in Italy for BlogTour Milan (#BlogTourMilan and@pamelacopeman on Twitter), I’m reposting some of my favorite and most popular posts from the past. I hope you enjoy!
Life is the room, Success is the door, Distraction is the lock, and Organization is the key.
~Jean-Pierre Ombregt
Recently I found myself in the position to make one of my longtime dreams come true. As an empty nester with a bit of extra space, it was finally time to create the closet of my dreams: an accessory closet.
As a lover of all things glam and fabulous, I’ve been amassing quite a collection of jewelry and accessories over time. Great costume pieces, bejeweled and patterned shoes along with purses, belts, and hosiery make up my treasure trove.
Off to Italy for BlogTour Milan (& Venice)!
Apr 03 2014 ·0As I prepare to leave for BlogTourMilan and our visit to Venice with Modenus, I find myself daydreaming about the last time I was in Venice with my family ~ in 1998! Could it really be 16 years, a short haircut and a much shorter Freddy ago??
Here are some photos of beautiful, majestic Venice and some personal ones from our family album…
2014 ASID New England Awards Gala
Apr 01 2014 ·1Oh what a night! The night of this year’s ASID New England Gala was a night that fairy tales are made of, truly! It was a warm and sunny evening in Boston (that alone was cause for celebration!) and everyone was dressed in their finery. The annual event was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to applaud outstanding design for everyone.
My day was filled with friends and family and I have to share with you how very special I felt.
Ignite the Nite 2014
Mar 04 2014 ·0Last week Boston GLOW held their annual Ignite the Nite Gala to raise funds in support of aspiring girl leaders from Boston’s most under-resourced schools. I had a wonderful time socializing, admiring (and bidding on) great items in the silent auction, noshing on delicious food, and of course, dancing! Enjoy a few photos of the event taken by Courtney Perkins Ryan of Lens Cap Productions and Mike Johnson of FestPics.com…
Portland, Maine: A City of Art, Design & Culinary Delights
Feb 25 2014 ·0This past weekend I spent two beautiful sunny days visiting my son, Fred, in Portland, Maine, his new home. My time in Portland was such a treat on so many levels. Today I’m so excited to share some of the highlights of my visit…
How do you know you’re in Maine? This (very tame) moose at a rest stop on the Turnpike is a good indication! I just had to take this photo:
2014 Intentions
Jan 14 2014 ·0“What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year.”
~Vern McLellan
Each year when January rolls around, I set aside some time to reflect and set my intentions (a sweeter, gentler word for resolutions) for the New Year.
Usually I am excited for a fresh start, but this year I am finding the start of 2014 to be bittersweet. For example, last year at this time I was very excited about the beginning of 2013 for so many reasons ~ one of the biggest was
Gratitude
Nov 27 2013 ·0With Thanksgiving upon us, it is time to reflect upon whom and what we are grateful for. Gratitude is a word whose meaning has really come into focus for me in the past couple of years. There have been so many changes in my life over the past 5 years, some are visible to the eye, some are more hidden in the heart. Through it all I remain grateful for the life I’ve had the privilege of living.
Here is my Gratitude list (in no particular order) as Thanksgiving 2013 is upon us…
Posh Pinterest Board of the Week: Lamps
Nov 11 2013 ·0Now that the days are getting shorter and daylight is more precious I find myself spending more time inside my home. While I appreciate the coziness that the early darkness brings, I don’t want to feel like I’m living in a cave. Lighting becomes of the utmost importance as the winter months settle in. While I am primarily a pendant and sconce girl, I can appreciate the functionality, flexibility and design value of a good lamp. This week’s Posh Pinterest Board by pinner ray joe, features Lamps, of all shapes and styles. If you must lamp 😉 , here are a few of my favorites …
An Artful Weekend
Oct 22 2013 ·0This weekend was outstanding! Everywhere I went I saw beautiful art and it wasn’t only on canvas!
Friday night I attended the Moonlight and Miracles Ball, the largest fundraiser of the year for the Cancer Care Unit at the South Shore Hospital.
Deneen McQueen-Chippari & the Whole Soul Wellness Kitchen
Jul 09 2013 ·0Yesterday I introduced you to my friend Deneen.
As I mentioned, Deneen is a certified Holistic Health Coach. Over the last couple of years she has worked enthusiastically first toward her certification and now building her business. Previously I had known Deneen “only” as a dance instructor, a Cabaret star, an outstanding mother and wife and a devoted friend. A few weeks ago however, I had the privilege of seeing Deneen in action as a Health Coach and Instructor at one of her Lunch and Learn programs.
No surprise, she was a star!…
The House A “Small But Mighty” Team Built In Guatemala
Jun 26 2013 ·0The team I was part of for the mission trip to Guatemala consisted of three designing women (that sounds familiar…) and three outstanding teenagers along with one very driven foreman, Diego. When we finished building our house it was said that we were overachievers: we built our house faster than any other team in 7 years! Woo Hoo!
I wonder, does that mean that we have to build even faster next year??
Here’s a glimpse at our build…
Guatemala Mission Trip: The Faces…
Jun 25 2013 ·0“We gain strength and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face…we must do that which we think we cannot.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt
As I settle into my life again, post Guatemala, in my beautiful, clean home on the water I am feeling so blessed. I can go to my sink and pour a glass of water and drink it with no worries of dysentery. I have been to the Fruit Center and I have plenty of healthy food to eat. And there is no one on the street with a rifle.
My mission trip to Guatemala was a profound experience. I knew it would be, but I was not sure in what ways. To be honest, I think I will be figuring this out for some time. For now I know I am so grateful to live in this country, and I am happy to be home with my family and friends.
Today I want to share with you what struck me the most on my trip: the faces of the people we met in Guatemala, especially the children. These faces are etched on my heart and will forever be there…
To Guatemala With Love
Jun 17 2013 ·1“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
~Barack Obama
This week I am in Guatemala with Kelly and her team through CRI. Before we left, Kelly sent us a photo of the family we will be building a home for…
Guatemala: A Service Trip
Jun 07 2013 ·1As you may know by now, I have just celebrated my “It’s a Wonderful Life” birthday (aka 30 again!) ~ perhaps you saw my Posh Picks for Birthday Cakes and Crowns. I enjoyed several fun and festive celebrations with family and good friends.
This is a milestone birthday year for me and I have long been contemplating how to best commemorate it in a larger sense…
Happy Mother’s Day!

A Tropical Interlude…
Mar 13 2013 ·0Things have been pretty hectic around here, in the best way! I’m taking a few days to rest and recharge ~ something that’s important for all of us!
Ignite the Nite Gala 2013
Feb 12 2013 ·0On February 28, 2013, local grassroots non-profit Boston GLOW (Girls’ Leadership, Organized Women), will host their third annual IGNITE the NITE gala in the hope of raising $35,000 in scholarship funds for young female students in Boston’s most underfunded schools in its most at-risk communities.
