The Philadelphia Flower Show, Part 1

For Christmas, my daughter Emily gifted me with a trip to Philadelphia to visit the world famous Philadelphia Flower Show. This past weekend it was finally time to go!
In the midst of our record breaking snowy winter I could hardly wait to feast my eyes on blooms full of color and creative, imaginative, and beautiful exhibits.
A bit about the history of ‘The Flower Show’ as it is simply called. First held in 1829 by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (which had only been established two years prior), the show featured displays from just 25 members in a small building named Masonic Hall located on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. Today, 186 years later, it’s the world’s oldest and largest indoor flower show with hundreds of horticultural enthusiasts eager to display their work and sell a variety of products to inspire attendees’ next gardening and landscaping projects.
Come take a peek at this year’s Philadelphia Flower Show with me…
This year’s theme is Movies ~ you know how I love movies, so this was very exciting. I love their tag line: Lights, Camera, Bloom! We even entered the exhibit hall via a red carpet!
The very first view was this Art Deco entry…all of this is created with flowers, can you believe it?
Inside the hall we were greeted with this sphere with roses of all colors…
Can you believe a chandelier with hanging fleurs? This will be part of my deck design this year, you bet!
I fell in love with “border” gardens years ago in my friend Ginny’s gardening class. This one is so classic and charming…
Love these petite water features
Color echoing, as Mrs. Blossom would say…it really does work, and the textures are breathtaking.
Ahhh, love…
Everywhere there was color, love these jewel tones…
Look closely and see if you can identify this movie:
….if you guessed Peter Pan, you are correct.
It was so easy to take close-up photos ~ a perennial favorite, the peony
Royal Purple
This exhibit is the Prince of Persia movie, love the architectural features that blend so well with the floral statement.
Can you spot the clue to the identity of this movie? Hint: it’s a favorite of mine that involves a handsome prince and a glass slipper…
This exhibit imagined Cinderella’s Wedding. So amazing…
What a table design…
Look at the sheer ribbon chandelier…
Is this too over the top for Emily’s wedding? Don’t forget you can never be too over the top!
Aladdin made an appearance too…
Isn’t this magical?
A floral corset? I would wear this (in the Summer) would you?
After all this color and all these blooms, are you feeling like Spring might finally be on the way? I hope so! Check back tomorrow for Part 2 of my visit to the Philadelphia Flower Show. Teaser: floral jewelry and seed packet art… Yes!
xo,
Pamela
