It is hard to imagine that my trip was 6 weeks ago. The faces are so fresh in my memory and I am still dreaming about our village experience. Sometimes I feel that building one house a year is just not enough in a country that is so poor. With the news of mothers in Central America giving their children to “handlers” so they can escape to the United States for a better future, this feeling hits especially hard. Having been to Guatemala and experienced the poverty and corrupt government firsthand, I can understand the desperation in a mother’s heart. I came upon this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt and it gives me hope…
“It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness”
~Eleanor Roosevelt
God Bless Guatemala.
