A Poem & A Painting: Sandy’s Flowers
Oct 24 2016 ·1It is well documented that Summer is my favorite season ~ I live at the beach after all 🙂 . However, I must give the Autumn it’s due. The colors of Nature are so vibrant and brilliant, it’s like a love note to my hue loving heart…

You can also check out each day’s entries for all of the artists who are participating in the challenge on Leslie Saeta’s 30 Paintings in 30 Days blog. A Painting & A Poem: Sunflowers & Zinnias
Sep 12 2016 ·0Fall is in the air this morning and even the flowers are signaling that the days of Summer are starting to fade. Gone are June’s peonies, making room for the mums, sunflowers, and zinnias in the hues of Autumn. I was lucky enough to receive a beautiful bouquet of these flowers ~ though they may not be the bright pinks I favor earlier in the season, they do look very nice in a leopard print vase…
A Poem & A Painting: The Most Beautiful Home
Sep 06 2016 ·0Last week I visited Victoria, British Columbia. I’d never been before and I was enchanted with the beauty and charm of the area! Throughout this Summer I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel, visit some amazing places, and stay in some beautiful homes (like the one in this week’s painting!). I am ever grateful to have made so many wonderful memories. By the same token, I am so happy to be home. It’s true what they say ~ there’s no place like home!
A Poem & A Painting: Inspired by Dolce & Gabbana
Aug 15 2016 ·0I have “beach on the brain” this week because Family Vacation is finally here! For me the beach is all about relaxing, sunshine, special memories, family, sunsets, and (for the artist & designer in me) bright colors. From beach umbrellas to bathing suits, bright colors and jazzy patterns are all over the beach ~ and I love it! This week’s watercolor sketch was inspired by iconic Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana…
A Poem & A Painting: Red Roses in Emily’s Kitchen
Jul 25 2016 ·0My daughter Emily has a lovely vintage inspired mason jar set in her kitchen. While I was visiting the mason jar vases were filled with single red rose stems. I stole a few moments to paint them in my sketchbook. I love how they turned out. I’ve never met a room that wasn’t made lovelier with the addition of fresh flowers…
A Poem & A Painting: Inspired by Southern Home Magazine & Rivers Spencer
Jul 18 2016 ·0I am back after a heavenly week in Philadelphia with Daisy, Emily, and Nick. I am thrilled to say that Daisy is making great strides and what a privilege it was to witness her progress in person!
In between snuggling, feeding, walking, and kissing Daisy, I did manage to do a bit of painting. As I have mentioned before, it is near impossible to travel with oil paints. I find that my watercolor palette is perfect for travel and my watercolor “sketches” are a great base to work from later. This week’s painting was inspired by a Southern Home magazine cover featuring a living room designed by Rivers Spencer. While Tony Bennett may have left his heart in San Francisco, I certainly left mine in Philadelphia…
A Poem & A Painting: 4th of July Flag
Jul 04 2016 ·1It has been such a glorious stretch of weather here ~ perfect for days at the beach, seeing friends, and celebrating our freedom! I couldn’t think of a better symbol of our freedom and our country than our flag ~ thus this week’s painting…
A Poem & A Painting: Eggs For Breakfast, Anyone?
Jun 27 2016 ·0Once again I’ve been drawn to my watercolors lately. I really enjoy the spontaneity and freedom that comes with simplicity of watercolor paints, a pen, and my sketchbook. This week’s subject is also a simple one ~ eggs. Remember when we all thought eggs just came in two colors, brown & white (except at Easter of course)? Thanks to Martha Stewart and the plethora of backyard chickens now being raised, we can all see that eggs come in many beautiful shades. It almost seems a shame to crack them open. Almost…
A Poem & A Painting: In Daisy’s Crib
Jun 13 2016 ·0Visiting with my new granddaughter (and her parents) is now my favorite thing to do. Early last week we celebrated Daisy’s homecoming after many long weeks in the NICU. Despite the challenges ahead, to say that we are thrilled is a complete understatement!
Once again I brought my watercolors on my trip and had a chance to do a bit of painting. This week’s painting features one of the loveliest “friends” in Daisy’s crib ~ a Monique Lhuillier designer doll from Pottery Barn Kids. Emily’s wedding dress was a Monique Lhuillier design as well. How perfect! I think the words of this lullaby by Carly Simon fit perfectly as well…
A Poem & A Painting: Memorial Day
May 30 2016 ·0Happy Memorial Day! Along with being the unofficial start of Summer, Memorial Day is of course a day to remember those we’ve loved and lost, particularly while serving our country. At 18 years old my Dad served in World War II and it forever changed his life. Whenever I see the grand display of American flags around this time of year I think of him and his service.
A Poem & A Painting: Waiting for Miss Daisy
May 09 2016 ·0As you may know, my granddaughter Daisy was born several weeks early. She is currently gaining strength and weight in the NICU and we are all counting the days until she comes home. When I visited my daughter last week I saw first hand that Daisy’s nursery is not only ready but also beautiful, with plenty of “friends” awaiting her arrival.
A Poem & A Painting: Mexican Pottery
Mar 28 2016 ·0Last month I visited the beautiful country of Mexico with a friend for some much need rest and relaxation. It seems like a lifetime ago now but if I close my eyes and allow my mind to drift, I can go back to that warm, beautiful, and inspiring place. While in Tulum one of the sights I especially enjoyed was the displays of handmade pottery. Such artistry! Today’s quote reminds me not only of the artisans of Mexico, but of so much more…
A Poem & A Painting: Autumn Bouquet
Nov 09 2015 ·0Over Halloween weekend I was fortunate to be able to spend a wonderful weekend in Nantucket with equally wonderful friends. Our hostess, my dear friend Sandy, once again opened her home to us and showered us with her hospitality. She had the most stunning Autumnal arrangement and I was inspired to paint a watercolor interpretation of it as a token of my thanks. I continue to travel with my watercolors and love how easy they are to use whenever the moods strikes.
A Poem & A Painting: Travel to Tuscany
Sep 28 2015 ·0I’ve just returned from an amazing trip to Tuscany filled with wonderful friends and memories that I will carry in my heart forever. There’s so much to see in Tuscany, a beautiful vista or stunning tableau seemingly wherever you turn. I found myself so inspired, taking photos, sketching, and using my travel watercolors to jot down my impressions.
I love this quote and how it fits with this week’s paintings…
A Poem & A Painting: Tuscany
Sep 14 2015 ·0This week’s painting is actually a watercolor sketch in preparation for a trip to Tuscany next week.
And here is a quote that I have found to be true over the years during my visits to Italy…
A Poem & A Painting: Mise En Place, Les Oeufs
Aug 24 2015 ·0I am off on a mini girls getaway ~ a few days on Nantucket with dear friends is a wonderful way to celebrate the all to quickly fading days of Summer. As I’ve been doing on most of my trips this Summer, I’ll be taking along my watercolors and brushes. Before I packed up my supplies, I did some experimenting with watercolor still life paintings. While I’m not much of a cook or a baker, I enjoyed creating and painting this scene featuring eggs, a wooden spoon and a mixing bowl. Oh the possibilities!
Instead of sharing a poem this week I thought I’d share two recipes featuring eggs ~ one savory and one sweet. Enjoy!
A Poem & A Painting: Hospitality
Aug 17 2015 ·0Last week I took time to relax and enjoy some Summer vacation. I was fortunate to spend a few days at the home of a friend on Cape Cod. As a thank you for her hospitality, I painted a watercolor of her lovely home…
A Poem & A Painting: Fog
Aug 03 2015 ·1This Summer it seems I’ve been on the go quite a bit. It’s been the perfect time to explore watercolors because they are so portable…
A Poem & A Painting: Happy 80th Birthday
Jul 27 2015 ·1I have a special place in my heart for “decade” birthdays. I have a group of dear friends (aka The Clinique Gang) and for years we have gathered to celebrate one another’s milestone birthdays. I painted this week’s painting for a friend’s Mom who is celebrating her 80th Birthday ~ woo hoo! She is hoping to receive 80 cards and I was happy to send mine along!
I thought this poem/verse made a nice accompaniment to this week’s painting…
