A Poem & A Painting: Speckled Brown Hen
Oct 10 2016 ·0We had some much needed rain this weekend and it made for some wonderful time in my art studio. It was an enjoyable break from the nonstop pace of the Boston Design Market last week at the Boston Design Center. Once again, I attended several informative seminars and met a host of wonderful people. I’m sure I’ll have more to share on that soon!
I also thoroughly enjoyed the opening of my Art Exhibit at the newly renovated FDO Group showroom ~ it is stunning! Thank you to those who were able to make it to the reception and thank you to everyone at FDO, your support is so appreciated! My artwork will be on display throughout October (Suite 313) so if you didn’t make it to the opening, you can still see the show. The Boston Design Center is open to the public and a great spot to gather inspiration (and a bite to eat).
This week’s painting and poem have a bit of a whimsical feel ~ I hope you get a kick out of it!
South Shore Art Center: Forever & After
Mar 19 2015 ·1Thou know’st ‘tis common; all that lives must die,
Passing through nature to eternity.
—William Shakespeare (Hamlet. 1.2.72–73)
I recently visited an amazing art show at the South Shore Art Center’s Bancroft Gallery entitled Forever & After. As the above quote selected by curator Bill Houser alludes to, the show’s themes revolve around the subjects of mortality, death, loss, mourning, monument, and commemoration.
“Sculpture has been used to commemorate and honor the dead since before the Egyptians built the pyramids, to ensure immortality for the spirits of those buried within. The essence of Forever & After is the exploration of the ubiquitous and prophetic themes of loss, commemoration, and belief in spirit with its uncertain evolution or transcendence, through the medium of contemporary sculpture.”
-Bill Houser, Curator
I adore mixed media artwork and this exhibit features pieces created with a wide variety of materials including reclaimed wood, doors, newspaper, and even a typewriter. Here’s a peek at a few of the pieces from the show…
Pamela’s Posh Picks: Chihuly at the Atlanta Botanical Garden
Feb 28 2014 ·0Just two more days until I jet off to Atlanta for this year’s Design Bloggers Conference! I am so looking forward to seeing my blogging buddies, hearing great speakers and seeing a little slice of Atlanta. While I probably won’t be visiting the Atlanta Botanical Garden on this trip, it’s definitely on my list for a future trip. In fact, I’d love to go if they ever bring back the Chihuly in the Garden exhibit that originally ran in 2004. During this exhibit, the majesty of Dale Chihuly’s glass was showcased with the inspiring plant collections of the Garden. Sounds amazing! Let’s take a peek at this week’s Posh Picks, featuring my favorite photos from Chihuly in the Garden in Atlanta…
