South Shore Oceanside Penthouse: A Trip to the Boston Design Center

It’s time for an update to the Penthouse interior design project I introduced you to last month! To date, I’ve shared the space in its ‘Before’ state, you can refresh your memory here. The next step in this Penthouse interior design project was to visit the Boston Design Center with my client. In preparation for this trip, I always pre-shop the showrooms ahead of time. This allows me to select the best furniture and accessory choices for our design, set up appointments with my representatives and have some fabric samples ready for my presentation. This way the client can more easily envision the finished space and our visit is focused and efficient.
Here my client is participating in the “Princess/Prince and the Pea” test. The chair just happens to be in the Kravet showroom window ~ he’s a great sport and it is the ONLY way to see if upholstered pieces are comfortable for you!
At Century Furniture, we were very interested in this chair from all sides…
It is important to view the proportions and lines of a piece from all angles, especially if it is going to be free-standing in a room…
Even though we were shopping for a sofa and chairs, this coffee table caught the eye of my client. It is perfect for our design!
This mirror was intriguing so I took a photo for future reference:
We have some very tall walls in the penthouse. We could possibly use this mirror angled down to reflect the ocean view. I’m not sure yet but definitely something to consider…
This coffee table was stunning:
The stone surface is gorg!
The sculptural base is beautiful… a perfect combination of function and art!
This beautiful wood sideboard caught our eye as well ~ perhaps a side bar?
Our last stop was at the Baker showroom. We loved the look of this great sectional ~ but sitting is believing. After all, the purpose of this trip was to see if the furniture is comfortable!
Here’s the whole gang trying it out ~ I think we may have a winner!
In all of my interior design projects, the visit to the Boston Design Center is always the highlight of the design process! Our next step is to edit the choices and make some decisions on the style of the furniture, the fabrics and place the orders. Exciting times!
Stay tuned to see how this stunning Penthouse evolves!

Pamela
