South Shore Interior Designer: Oceanside Penthouse Project

I’m so excited to be able to share with you a new interior design project that I am working on. The setting is a stunning oceanside penthouse space with incredible views. My client is a gentleman whose taste is both masculine and sophisticated. He works in the hotel industry and has owned quite a few homes which has certainly influenced his sense of style. It has been a delight to collaborate with him.
While the space is gorgeous, it is not without challenges. For example, vaulted ceilings and large expanses of windows are beautiful, but how to effectively incorporate them into a posh interior design? Today I’m sharing the preview (before) photos of the space and you’ll see what I mean…
As you enter the home you immediately notice the hardwood floor with its bold geometric inlaid wood pattern. If you look closely you will further note the compass rose that is inlaid into the marble. It will be important to keep these elements in mind as we select the carpet in the Living Room.
The open living space includes the Living Room, a Fireplace area and to the left of that, the Dining Room.
Just beyond all of this is the magnificent view of the ocean. The existing décor is quite grey/beige, don’t you think? Not for long…
The large sectional sofa fills this area nicely with the added benefit of a lounger on the left. Alternate options we are considering include a long sofa and 2 chairs. We shall see…
The 2-story ceiling dwarfs the existing television and console making them look like doll furniture. In grand spaces it is so important to be aware of proportion!
Set on the diagonal is a gas fireplace, a perfect spot for 2 chairs. I would love to see 2 swivel chairs that could be turned to take in a sunset or to twist and see a ballgame on the television, a version of in-home stadium seating.
The Dining Room is to the left of the fireplace which makes for a cozy spot, especially in winter.
The circular table is perfect because it breaks up the vertical lines of the window mullions and the kitchen cabinets behind this area. We will probably work on the carpet size and shape.
The next area is the Master Bathroom and it is a beautiful space…
There is so much to compliment that this will be fun. Don’t you love the masculine dark granite on the floor?
Yes, there is a fireplace in the Master Bathroom! The fireplace is gas and there is plenty of room for 2 club chairs or perhaps a chaise with a small table ~ just large enough for a cup of coffee or glass of wine.
Oh the possibilities ~ perhaps a television and a sound system over the mantle instead of the mirror?
The existing shutters are perfect for privacy.
Now this is a Spa Bathing Tub! I can certainly recommend some plants and accessories to give this area more luxe.
The steam shower is oh-so inviting. So many bathing options, which would you choose?
The vanities, while not particularly masculine in style, are well done and new. I am confident my team and I will be able to work our magic in this area.
This says it all…
Stay tuned for more details on the trip to the Boston Design Center for the selection of furnishings!
