“ Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind”
~Seneca
Ahhhh, I just returned from a short vacation to Punta Cana, a popular resort area in the Dominican Republic. Located on the same Carribean island as Haiti, Punta Cana is on the eastern point of the Dominican Republic ~ a lovely spot indeed…
The beach waters are a translucent turquoise, the sand alabaster and the sky periwinkle violet. A sharp contrast to the stone cold grey sky and angry dull green waves that fill my current view during our latest snow storm (isn’t it the day before Spring??).
Everything about this trip was sensory. The air felt warm and tropical. I could smell the sweet flowers, so clean and fresh that I visualized the color green in my head. When my feet touched the fine sand it was if they were being massaged. It was simply a delicious trip in every way!
As my sister Kate and I entered the lobby of our resort, we were greeted by this enormous sculpture of a tropical plant. I adore the patina of the base.
As you know, my eyes are always drawn toward light fixtures, and this pendant caught my eye for many reasons. The tulip shape is perfectly proportioned and the fixture showcased another use of metal as a design element.
These twin chairs are so chic and modern in shape that they almost seemed out of place. Yet the material ties them back to the rustic tropical elegance of the space.
Another use of metal in the decor, this lovely butterfly sculpture.
The use of living plant materials fascinated me. This man is weaving leaves into a sculpture.
Love this ~ they adorned walls everywhere.
This was a chandelier made out of hanging white lights on white cords, reminiscent of a Christmas decoration ~ great impact!
I spotted this wood carving in the airport, there were several panels painted in bright colors, the dimensionality was great.
I have always said that art and inspiration are everywhere all you have to do is look around you and see it. At the Design Bloggers Conference one of the speakers told us to “exercise your eye muscles” and I believe in that deeply.
I have returned to my desk with new energy, ideas and goals… Stay tuned!
xo,
Pamela
