Posh Peek: A Look Inside My Day with Pamela Copeman

As 2014 rolls along, I am so excited to present the latest new feature on the Posh Palettes blog ~ Posh Peek! In this new feature, we will be giving you a ‘Posh Peek’ into the day of a different creative professional each month. On the agenda so far (fingers crossed): interior designers, bloggers, an artist, a chef, a personal trainer and a life coach. We hope to spotlight their various activities during a typical professional day ~ along with a few background and “curious” questions a la James Lipton from Inside the Actor’s Studio. To kick things off I thought it only fitting that I let you have a peek inside my day. Here we go!…
7am Rise & Shine
I usually rise at 7:00 which is such a luxury for me. When I was very young I delivered morning newspapers with my sister and we had to get up in the dark at about 5 am and I will never get over that feeling of “sleepwalking”. Not only do I start with my day with ½ caf- ½ decaf black coffee, but I also have a smoothie, typically it is green due to the addition of kale (inspired by Deneen).
8:00 Off to the Gym
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings it’s off to the gym bright and early for Rack It Up Muscle/Intervals (a.k.a. pure torture with Gina). Here I’m working my biceps in anticipation of this year’s Guatemala trip as well as a 1 minute interval of Mountain Climbers ~ killer!
11am Boston Design Center
Now it’s off to the Boston Design Center. I am so fortunate to be able to go to one location and select all the fabrics (and just about everything else) I may need for a project and then do my design work at my home office.
I am working on a Family Room for a client and these are two palettes for consideration:
Can you guess which one I prefer?
3pm Design Work in my Home Office
This is a corner of my office and obviously the top of my desk. I tend to work in a messy manner, meaning that I like to work with a LOT of options and then edit my design.
This is the view I have of my desk when seated. I can see my sweet Em and Pally always and in the dark distance is my peaceful view. At the end of each work day, I am trying to create the habit of tidying up my work space and desk so I am fresh for the next day.
I share my office with my painting studio, although not ideal, it is a luxury to be able to keep my easel up and my oils out. This is a piece I am working on from a blogger’s photo from India. I love the days when I can squeeze in at least an hour to paint…it soothes my soul.
5pm Sunset and wrapping up
At the end of every day, I try to stop and take a breath, look out at the sunset and the water, and count my many blessings. I love my profession. It is such a privilege to be invited into someone’s home and collaborate with them to create a place where they will love their family and create memories. I have always felt this is an honor.
Describe your workspace. How does it typically look?
My desk is in my home office/studio. I must admit that due to my tendency to “work messy”, it can be a challenge to find the top of my desk some days. I also often find myself spreading out my materials onto the floor to do my color work. The other side of my office houses my art studio. I have easels, paints, brushes, canvases and boards, completed paintings and paintings in progress ~ one big, happy, colorful melange!
Did you know at a young age you wanted to be an Interior Designer? Were there detours along the way?
Growing up, I did not know a soul who had a designer. However my mother always had a beautiful home filled with her paintings and red walls (which I loved) so I believe it is in my genes. For many years early in my professional life, I worked for Clinique where I developed my creative eye, honed my sales skills and made inspiring friends that I am close with to this day. While my children were young, I began growing my business, starting as a stenciler while also taking classes in Interior Design. My love of color, the need to express myself creatively and desire to help people create spaces where they can celebrate life and love all come together beautifully in my work as an Interior Designer. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to live my passion in this way.
If you had an ice cream flavor named for you, what would it be called?
Oh definitely, Poppy Glitter! I have no idea what it would taste like but it would be beautiful!
If you could have one Superpower, what would it be?
I am not positive on this one, I could name so many, but maybe mind-to-mind communication…
Mac or PC?
Mac ~ iPhone & iPad too!
What would the title of your biography be?
I’d like to say Glitter, Glam Girl but I think She Can Do That would be more appropriate because I always thought if I put my “mind to it” I could do it…
I hope you’ve enjoyed my Posh Peek! We are so looking forward to highlighting a wide range of creative people in this feature as the year goes on. I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments section!
xo,
Pamela
