Tis the season for gathering with friends and family, indulging in treats and merriment. I was so disappointed to have to miss my dear friend Gina’s recent annual Holiday Cookie Swap party so I thought I might try to make up for it with a “virtual” cookie swap.
A Poem & A Painting: Christmas Chic

For today’s painting, I’m sharing my 2014 Gift Tag. Each year I love to take out my watercolors and create a festive tag to personalize my holiday gifts. To me, the presentation is as much a part of the gift as what’s inside the wrapping paper…

Bergdorf Goodman Holiday Windows 2014
Dec 10 2014 · 0 comments · Holiday, Inspiration, Shops & Galleries ·0
The Holiday Windows in New York City are one of my favorite traditions. Whether I view them online or am fortunate enough to see them in person, I am always in awe of the creativity, hard work, and planning that goes into bringing each window to life. The windows at Bergdorf Goodman are among my perennial favorites. This year Bergdorf’s has dedicated a window to each of a sampling of the Arts ~ Film, Literature, Painting, Theater and Dance among them. I’ll be visiting NYC the week after Christmas when I’m hoping to view several of the holiday displays, including these amazing windows. Until then, these photos from Racked NY will have to do…
A Poem & A Painting: Magical Christmas

This week’s painting was created for the latest Girls Just Wanna Paint Challenge ~ Magical. I just adore the glow of Christmas lights, especially in this season where darkness comes so early. I was trying to capture this light in my painting by using gold and silver leaf.

“Comfort is not just about whether a chair feels good to sit in.
It’s about being comfortable in all aspects of your life.”
~Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams
As has been well-documented on my blog, I adore everything about Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. From the products to the craftsmanship to the amazing employees, it’s all top notch. I painted this week’s painting for my friend John Trifone, Director of Sales at Mitchell Gold in Boston. What do you think of my artistic interpretation of a Mitchell Gold room?…

Love & Inspiration: Thanksgiving Table Settings
Nov 26 2014 · 0 comments · Holiday, Personal ·0
Around here, Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday. Both my son and my daughter love to come home and cook (how lucky am I?), stay up and visit all night, and “doll up” for guests. I adore that we love to be together without the exchange of gifts, because isn’t spending time together the best gift of all? And we are always thrilled to welcome friends who have become family and this year is no different.
The highlight of my Thanksgiving entertaining is creating the tablescape. Are you surprised? I adore selecting a new palette each year and surprising my peeps with a beautiful table. Today I wanted to share not only my Thanksgiving table for this year, but a couple of other Thanksgiving tables I’ve loved…

Three Heavenly Days of ART
Nov 19 2014 · 0 comments · Art Exhibits & Events, Artists, My Paintings ·0
This past weekend I treated myself to a 3 Day Workshop at the South Shore Arts Center taught by Kimberly Alemian called Perception-Abstraction: A Work in Process. In the class we explored the process of constructing paintings through additive and subtractive activity including layering, scraping and mark-making.
Over the past couple of years I’ve had a growing fascination with Abstract Art. It has been my experience that it can be very, very good or, well, horrid! Sometimes when I study a piece I “fall into it”, meaning that every time I change my view I see something new. Good abstract paintings make you work at the viewing. I was so excited to have the opportunity to explore this medium in depth as an artist.
The class was an intense experience for me. I worked much larger than my usual 6”x 6” panel boards, using 20”x 20” canvas, 22″ x 30″ illustration board and several other LARGE papers. I used watercolor, pastels, oil pastels and oil paint partnered with charcoal and graphite ~ and 3”-4” brushes. It was an extreme experience! But oh how I learned to make art differently! Come take a peek at our exercises…

“…We love to laugh…
We believe in we. Not I.
We believe children enrich our lives.
We believe in enriching the lives of our children…”
~excerpt from the MGBW creed
My love and admiration of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, as men and as a company, is well documented. Earlier this year I attended one of their 25th Anniversary celebrations (read about that here). When they opened a flagship store in Boston in 2012 I was over the moon (read about that here). You can imagine how thrilled I was when my friend and client Tina contacted me to help her refresh her Family Room design using several pieces from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.
