I have a special treat today, I’m sharing my Top 10 Interior Design Secrets! Culled over 25 years as an interior designer, I am excited to share my knowledge with you!
Without further adieu, here are my Top 10 Interior Design Secrets (in no particular order)…
1. Always paint the ceiling a color ~ other than ‘Ceiling White’. The ceiling is the largest unadorned area of a space (with the exception of a light fixture), embellish it with a color…
2. Place your art at eye level. For instance, if you have a cozy reading chair with a floor lamp, hang a small size painting at your seated eye level so you can enjoy and appreciate the work.
3. Use color in your designs. You get the most impact from paint and if you don’t like it you can easily change it!
4. Every room can use an animal print! Be wild!
5. Sconces provide the best task lighting for bathrooms. Place at eye level for best results.
6. Don’t ever, ever line the furniture up against a wall. Be creative, thoughtful furniture arrangement can transform a space.
7. Install and use dimmer switches on EVERY lighting element– from ceiling fixtures to lamps. Dimmers allow you to control the amount of light in a room and create the atmosphere you desire.
8. Mirrors must reflect something worth looking at.
9. Arrange your collections together in one area. Grouping items together adds importance and impact.
10. Be sure your home is a reflection of you and the people you love. This is perhaps the most important tip of all!
If you’ve enjoyed my Top 10 Interior Design Secrets, I’d love for you to share them! If you’d like a ‘designer’s eye’ to help you implement some of my tips, contact me!
