Designhounds KBIS 2019 Report: KBIS

It’s hard to believe this is my final recap from this year’s KBIS show in Las Vegas! As part of the Designhounds group we were fortunate to work with so many wonderful sponsors ~ be sure to check out my previous posts featuring Thermador & Caesarstone, Lamps Plus & Thompson Traders, and Wellborn Cabinet & Mr. Steam. Today’s featured sponsor is KBIS! Yes, the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show!
The NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association) has been educating and inspiring members of the Kitchen & Bath industry for over 50 years. KBIS is the signature yearly event and it has gotten bigger and better each year. For 2019 KBIS debuted a brand new KBIS Salon edition in a smaller tented venue featuring the #dmmtalks lounge, Dallas Market’s Lightovation, and the specially curated KBIS EDIT. This is in addition to the three halls packed with design, technology and building solutions
KBIS Salon was a more intimate experience than the larger exhibit halls and personally I loved what it had to offer ~ and it was a bit more manageable as well.
Our Designhounds group kicked off our KBIS experience with a welcome from Veronika Miller of Modenus and Designhounds and Brian Pagel, Sr. V.P. of Emerald Expositions, at the Design Milk x Modenus Talks lounge.
Throughout the show, there were panel discusssions with industry leaders, influencers, and design V.I.P.s about trends in business and products.
Another feature at KBIS Salon was a new area, KBIS Edit. KBIS Edit featured exclusive, design-forward brands curated by Modenus and Design Milk. This invitation-only space focused on “small batch production, international luxury brands, bespoke manufacturers and artisans in and around the kitchen and bath industry.”
Here are a few of my favorite finds from KBIS Edit:
Mirth Studio
Mirth Studio creates colorful, patterned hardwood floor tiles that are perfect for residential and commercial use. They have created a state of the art tile that is abrasion resistant, eco-friendly, and easy to install! Mirth Studio tiles have the acoustical properties and comfort of wood with the look of a luxurious hand painted hardwood floor. Additionally, the tiles can be customized. This is truly a beautiful product and for those of us in the Boston area, you can see (and feel) these tiles in person at Amanda Pratt’s Salon on Charles Street.
Westfall and Kitson
Westfall and Kitson is a new, trade-only wallpaper label featuring fine art wallcoverings. As may you know wallcoverings are coming back in a big way and these selections are breathtaking. They design papers that are derived from handmade art. I love this marbled pattern (below). Another striking pattern I noted was inspired by clouds and smoke and had an ethereal look. The paper can be yours in a matte finish or a textured weave and in multiple colorways.
Nantucket Sinks
Nantucket Sinks features a product line that gives you a taste of the elegant coastal island with all of the functionality you could dream of.
I felt right at home viewing their products all the way from Massachusetts to Las Vegas and loved their diverse product selection.
Design Bites
KBIS chose 10 of the most Innovative kitchen and bath brands for 2019 to present their newest & most innovative product during a program called Design Bites. This was an action packed hour where each company had 3 minutes to present their product followed by a 2 minute Q & A session. Moderator Kelli Ellis brought an energy and smile that was intoxicating. Ellis, an interior designer, artist, and lifestyle expert describes her style as “international style mix with rock star glam”. Kelli did a great job keeping this busy hour engaging and fun while also moving things along. I just loved her! Did I mention we had a gourmet box lunch during this time as well?
Here are 3 of my top companies that presented during the Design Bites hour
Infinity Drain
Infinity Drain is both a designer and contractor’s dream. It looks great, blends in seamlessly, and installs easily. The benefits of the Infinity Drain include the ability to create threshold curbless showers and it takes about ½ the time as a traditional drain for installation.
Titus Group
The Titus Group introduced T-Type hinges which are the perfect solution for luxury Kitchens. This is a soft closing concealed hinge with a lifetime guarantee and unmatched performance.
LG Electronics
LG Electronics featured the LG Styler, a product that can refresh and dry clean your clothes at home(!) Did I mention that it can also sanitize toys? The LG Styler can be placed right beside your washer and dryer for the ultimate in laundering. This personal steam clothes refresher is chemical free and can refresh in 20 minutes ~ such a game changing innovation!
A Few More Favorites
The KBIS show had so many terrific resources, here are a few more of my favorites I haven’t mentioned yet…
Brizo
Brizo is tops in Luxury design for Bath and Kitchen and I have been a great admirer of their elegantly designed products for years.
I loved this new “rain shower” showerhead than can easily adjust to accommodate users of different heights~
Brizo also introduced a soft gold finish for their sinks, it exudes such warmth~
The luxurious Invari Bath Collection with Black Crystal Knobs is sleek and glamorous all at once:
Coral!
Much of the buzz at KBIS was about colorful finishes in Kitchens, thank goodness we are getting more creative than white and gray! Just look at these coral appliances designed by Madcap Cottage for BlueStar.
It was another fabulous year at KBIS, thank you Veronika Miller for selecting me to be part of DesignhoundsKBIS 2019. The influencers in our group are all outstanding and I am so pleased I got to reunite with friends and meet new ones.
