Design Bloggers Conference, Part 2
Mar 12 2013 · 1 comment · Design Events ·0
As a first time attendee to the Design Bloggers Conference, I will admit to being a little intimidated by the list of attendees, over 300 of them! With so many well known designers and bloggers with their thousands of followers and me still struggling with the # and @ signs of Twitter, well, perhaps you can understand my trepidation. Have no doubt though, I AM DETERMINED TO GET THERE! Attending this conference was definitely a step in that direction!
Upon my arrival to the hotel, I walked down the never ending hall and soon saw the brightest, most welcoming smiles all the way from Atlanta, Georgia: the dynamic team Joanne Kandrac and Kelley Kole! I could just feel the warmth of Kelley, one of the Brizo 19 (Fall 2012) and to finally meet her work partner was a treat.
With that, the reconnecting and networking with friends began and my anxiousness melted away.
I promised you eye candy and inspiration yesterday. True to my word, I am going to share some of my personal highlights from the presentations of Charlotte Moss and Barbara Barry.
Charlotte Moss is a southern blonde beauty with a husky voice and is a straight shooter. I loved her expressions and her style in every way. Ms. Moss encouraged us as bloggers to express our unique point of view.
Among her suggestions:
~ Prowl around with a camera everywhere we go, you never know what will catch your attention and become inspiration
~Read, as Stephen King says, “if you don’t have time to read you don’t have time to write” ~ love this!
~As bloggers we are accountable
~Be kind and give back
Ahhh, Ms. Barry is a quiet breeze with a spiritual nod to romance. You just want to take a deep breath and take all of her in and be still. Barbara told us she lives unabashedly for beauty…bravo!
She believes beauty can transform the ordinary. Colors have nuances and if you are working with cool colors warm them a bit…
This photo is called An Elegant Mess. It was taken after the dinner party, Ms. Barry was very taken by the way the wine had created a color on linen and the beauty created after the party… inspiration is everywhere!
While some may see merely pistachio nuts in this slide, Barbara Barry sees a color palette suitable for an interior design based on the hues of the nut, the skin and the shell… what an eye!
Ms. Barry was so gracious in signing her latest book Around Beauty and taking photos with all 300+ of us. What a sweetheart!
Now for more eye candy, here are some of the most wonderful people I reconnected with at the conference. Really, when all is said and done, it’s all about people…
The talented and authentic Nicole Copko (far left) from Garrison Hullinger and friends
Dawn Carroll and Grammy Award winning singer Patti Austin were in attendance to represent the Over my Shoulder Foundation. Patti performed a capella for us ~ so beautiful. Patti will be at the New England ASID GALA this March 21 in Boston, so it was wonderful to meet her.
Deb Barrett, a friend who is an award winning designer, author and speaker as well the tour guide I went with to Maison Objet and other Paris Interior Museums. Such a sweet surprise to see her here.
The New England area was well represented in LA. Here I am with the Publisher of New England Home magazine Kathy Bush Dutton ~ always a pleasure!
New England Home’s Editor-In-Chief Kyle Hoepner (also a panelist, so well spoken) and my dear friend Laurie Gorelick
Courtney Price, Jennifer Mehditash and Laurie Gorelick ~ outstanding designers, bloggers and friends!
My companions at our closing night dinner at Fig and Olives ~ so hard to say good bye!
One of the outstanding elements of this conference was the generosity of all of the designers and speakers. I am very proud to be part of this industry and did my best to make thoughtful contributions where I could. I have been processing this experience for 4 days now and as a blogger I commit to consistently bringing you original content that will crossover a variety of social media platforms. Keep your eyes here, on my Posh Palettes blog!
“Unity is strength for… when there is team work and collaboration wonderful things can be achieved”.
