Charlotte Moss at the Boston Design Center

Last month Century Furniture hosted interior design celebrity Charlotte Moss at the Boston Design Center. Having recently heard her present at the Design Bloggers Conference in Los Angeles, I was very excited to hear her speak once again. Ms. Moss’ manner is a delightful blend of pure southern grace peppered with a dry sense of humor which means her presentations are not only full of information but also highly entertaining…
This topic for this day’s seminar was Age Defying Decorating:
Charlotte Moss featured three designers whose work has stood the test of time: David Hicks, Bill Blass and Renzo Mongiardino. She highlighted several of their designs that were created 30-40 years ago but that could have been published in any trade magazine this month.
Here’s a closer look…
David Hicks
Hicks was noted for his use of bold color and mix of antique and modern furniture as well as contemporary art for his clientele.
Bill Blass
A Fashion Designer, Blass was recognized with 7 Coty awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1999. His clothing line is the epitome of timeless.
Renzo Mongiardino
A stage and screen designer as well as an interior designer, Mongiardino was known for his mix of patterns and rich layering of colors.
Charlotte emphasized to us that great design not only looks great today, but stands the test of time and looks terrific even many years later.
Ms. Moss then went on to speak about where she finds inspiration for her work and life. One of her favorite sources of inspiration are gardens, especially she sees while she traveling. Even at home, she is most content in her gardens.
One of her favorite gardens she visited recently is at Notre Dame d’Orsan. I believe she may have even “borrowed” one of the gardeners for a time, shhhh!
This is a watercolor painting she adores and she shared it with us… I adore it too, don’t you?
This quote is so appropriate for design, I may just have to put this on my bulletin board!
I suggest you add Charlotte Moss’ blog to your must-read list, it is well worth it!
Yes, that is me under the famous Charlotte Moss orange cap given out at the Design Bloggers Conference. She got a kick out of it when I donned it for our photo, I hope you do too!
Charlotte Moss is an charming woman and outstanding designer. I invite you to check out her brand new furniture line at Century Furniture at the Boston Design Center (give me a call!) as well as her books on design and inspiration including this gorgeous one I just picked up for my personal library:
“ ‘There are no new ideas in the world, only new arrangements of things’, Henri Cartier-Bresson once said, and I will add that I believe one must know what came before to rearrange in a new way, to contribute something fresh today.”
