Pamela's Posh Picks: Royal Ascot Hats 2012
Jun 22 2012 ·0The United States may have the Kentucky Derby, but our Derby headpieces are no match for the outrageous hats seen at this week’s Royal Ascot races in England!
What is the Royal Ascot?
“Royal Ascot is one of the pinnacle events of the summer social season and the racecourse will be playing its part, in this historic year, in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The Royal Meeting will certainly be one of the must-attend events of the year to enjoy all of the pageantry and history of a quintessentially British day out.”
This week’s Posh Picks are all about the wonderfully imaginative, must-be-seen-to-be-believed hats of the Royal Ascot…
I love this spirited, bedazzled tribute to the Queen’s Jubilee
These gray beaded flowers are a-mazing
And then things go a bit over-the-top…
A proper English breakfast…on your head??
Did someone say Royal Ascot was a BYOB event??
Can you imagine sitting behind (or beside) this spectacularly bizarre birdcage hat??
And of course, this week’s petite oil painting:
Have an outrageously enjoyable weekend!

Pamela's Posh Picks: Fab & Frivolous Finials
Jun 16 2012 ·0Lamp finials are such a fun and easy way to add detail to a lamp. This week’s Posh Picks will help you transform your lighting into a true design statement!
Looking for something uber-masculine? How about these Antler lamp finials?
These exotic lamp finials are handcrafted in Africa~ from telephone wire believe it or not! The swirl pattern reminds me of lollipops and ocean waves, so colorful and fun.
This beautiful glass finial is also handcrafted. Local artist Marj Bates has used Venetian glass to create a finial whose colors “glow, sparkle and dazzle” as the light shines through. Just lovely!
For a touch of refined elegance, this clear crystal cube lamp finial from Antique Lamp Supply is perfect.
How adorable is this pink birdie finial from Stray Dog Designs? I would love to see this used in a child’s space or even a ladies’ retreat~this finial is the essence of fab and frivolous!
Finials are like jewelry for your lamps~and who couldn’t use more jewelry! I hope you’re inspired to add a fab and frivolous finial to one of your lamps, the variety, and fun is endless!
Finally, this week’s petite Interior oil painting:I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Pamela's Posh Picks: Kelly Wearstler Fabric for Lee Jofa
Jun 08 2012 ·0In keeping with the Kravet family theme, this week’s Posh Picks are from Kelly Wearstler’s Groundworks fabric collection for Lee Jofa. I’ve seen this collection in person at both the Boston and New York Kravet showrooms and I can tell you that it absolutely swoon-worthy!
My first pick is Water Stripe in the Juniper/Lake colorway
This embroidered fabric is the result of Kelly being challenged to create a contemporary fabric based on an older fabric. The embroidered threads are stitched on a bias which is not an easy task. This fabric is magnificent, particularly in person when you can truly appreciate the color and texture.
My next Posh Pick from this line is Mineral in Indigo/Slate
I love how this fabric is reminiscent of a batik print with a contemporary kick.
Posh Pick No. 3 is Feline in Graphite/Rose
No matter how you read this pattern, perhaps as an animal print or even falling rose petals, it adds lots of interest when draped. I particularly adore this gorgeous colorway, it speaks to me with its uniqueness.
Next up: Tempest in Linen
This fabric is wonderfully “noticeable in neutral”. The zig zag pattern would work wonderfully as either a complement to another fabric or as a stand alone statement.
Finally, Barcelo in AlabasterI love the organic pattern of this fabric. It looks both like a geode and a beautiful marbleized motif. Lovely, dynamic and soothing all at once!
Should you like to view any of these amazing fabrics in person, contact me to arrange a trip to the Lee Jofa showroom at the Boston Design Center!
Finally, as promised, this week’s petite Interior oil painting:
I’d love to hear your feedback!

I love New York!

Of course mirrors aren’t just for walls…

Pamela's Posh Picks: The Met Gala {Tangerine} Carpet
May 11 2012 ·0This week the Met Ball took place in NYC! Aptly nicknamed the “Oscars of the East Coast”, the Met Ball celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. This year the red carpet event took on a tangerine hue as many stars donned gowns in the Pantone Color of the Year.
Trends in interiors and fashion often mirror one another and this year’s Met Ball is a perfect example. Here are some of my favorite tangerine gowns from the gala event!
Ginnifer Goodwin looks shapely and delicious as an orange in this silk chiffon cap sleeve gown with an embroidered neckline and draped skirt~love the details!
Eva Mendes in Prada tangerine silk strapless peplum gown with bejeweled bodice is perfect!
Tory Burch in coral appliqué orchids on white tulle has borrowed a fabric directly from a fabric showroom~ this would look great in a ball gown drape…
Kristen Bell looks lovely in Tommy Hilfiger’s crinkle silk chiffon gown with a halter neckline. The waist ruching is reminiscent of a drapery style swag valance.
Kristen Wiig is all decked out in orange lace oh so chic!
Katherine McPhee is a SMASH in a glittering sparkling orange gown by Elie Saab.
Oh how I heart orange…

Pamela's Posh Picks: Cinco de Mayo
May 06 2012 ·0Saludos amigos! I hope you are enjoying this Cinco de Mayo weekend! While the origin of the Cinco de Mayo holiday may be an improbable victory by the Mexicans against the invading French army in the city of Pueblo, it has really evolved into a celebration of the Mexican way of life. In honor of this fun holiday, this week’s Posh Picks include the great collection of festive Mexican inspired fabrics that the Boston Design Center has put together on their blog: The BDC Goes South of the Border.
I invite you to enjoy a margarita and some chips and guac and go ahead and take a peek!

Pamela's Posh Picks: Patio Umbrellas
Apr 27 2012 ·0Spring has definitely sprung! The earth is covered in green and beautiful flowering trees and bulbs punctuate the landscape with vibrant pops of color. I’ve already been enjoying time out on my terrace and as always, am looking foward to many more hours outside as the even warmer weather approaches. Of course we don’t always want to be in the sun when we’re out on our decks and patios, sometimes you need a little bit of shade. This weeks Posh Picks are all about creating shade while maintaining style. Enjoy!
The Shadylace Parasol is “stencil-cut to allow beams and dapples of sunshine through, giving a natural quality of light and shade”.
The lacey leaf pattern is so unique and lovely, giving you the feeling of sitting under a maple tree. Did you notice the golden bird finial at the top? Whimsical perfection!
The Pagoda Umbrella from Pier 1 is full of painterly personality with a bohemian-Asian vibe.
I envision lots of colorful floor pillows in piles underneath for lounging . Pure fun….
The Emberglow patio umbrella with its’ sophisticated orange and white pattern would be a perfect compliment with white or dark patio furniture~
Doesn’t every umbrella look just a wee bit better with tassels? This Carousel Gingko umbrella certainly does!
Wouldn’t it be fun to embellish the edges of a plain market umbrella with tassels or a scallop edge trim? Of course there’s always the perennial favorite tiny white fairy lights. So many great options for great looking shade!
Finally, this tiki-inspired Palapa umbrella. I first saw this style of umbrella at my friend Susan’s pool and I fell in love with it. Susan has this style of umbrella alongside her pink pool house and it looks great. This Posh Pick get points not only for sentimental reasons but also because I love the way the faux grass dances in the wind.
With so many great choices and creative options, have a great time selecting your summer umbrella (or 2!)

Pamela's Posh Picks: Designer Sunglasses
Apr 21 2012 ·0Is that you behind those shades?
This week I had the pleasure of shopping for new eyeglass frames with my friend, Campbell. I was pleasantly surprised by the stylish couture sunglasses that are now available~perfect inspiration for this week’s Posh Picks!
Original Wayfarer from Ray-Ban:
Can you believe these are the classic Ray Bans but now updated with colorful stripes? These will match my every summer ensemble, don’t you think?
Chanel Signature cat-eye sunglasses outlined in cultured pearls:
Oh, I love these Chanel frames- if you look closely you can see the cultured pearls along the top and the famous double “cc” logo at the temple. I might even wear these sunglasses to the symphony at night ~ they are just soooo chic!
Prada Illusion ski-mask inspired sunglasses:
Now, these futuristic frames are what Prada is all about – high fashion!
I was told by Timothy Aloysius Trail, from New Look Optical in Winchester, that the Jackie O Ray Bans are still a best seller. A true classic, just like Jackie herself.
And of course, you know I can’t resist a Kate Spade design. Oversized, pink, and fab, with a modified cat-eye shape~ I may just have to splurge on this pair!
Remember to protect the health of your beautiful, flirty eyes with a stylish pair of “sunnies” (as Rachael Zoe would say) and in turn, they will make you look like a STAR!

Pamela's Posh Picks: Outdoor Rugs
Apr 06 2012 ·0Spring has officially arrived and now we here in New England can look forward to designing (and using!) our outdoor spaces. Whether you have a patio, a gazebo, a terrace or a deck, one of the best strategies as you begin envisioning your space is to start from the ground up. In that spirit, this week’s Posh Picks are a varied and fabulous selection of indoor/outdoor rugs.
Jaipur Rugs Barcelona Red/Orange
I love the red/orange color and geometric design of this fresh looking rug. It would pair seamlessly with West Indies inspired patio furniture: think dark stained wood and wicker with bright, coordinating cushions and accessories.
Trans Ocean Terrace Zebra Brown Indoor/Outdoor Rug
By now you know that I cannot pass up a chance to highlight nearly anything in an animal print! This sophisticated zebra inspired print would look great on a Bachelor Balcony. Sleek chaises in dark brown powder coated metal complete this sophisticated, masculine look.
Dash & Albert Woven Marina Stripe Indoor Outdoor Rug
This lively rug is both classic and durable. To me, this is Cape Cod style all the way. This would be beautiful on a patio with white furniture ~ how about a dining set with a complementary umbrella in a bold shade of green or blue?
Rug Market Resort Toulouse Blue Outdoor Rug
The Toulouse rug oozes romance. It would be perfectly at home on a terrace overlooking a perennial garden. I picture a Victorian white wicker chaise topped with hints of raspberry in the pillows and perhaps maybe even a parasol for shelter from the sun. Mmmmm, iced tea in this lovely ladies lounging area sounds delightful!
Koko Co. floormat, Optic in Pink/Red
Bold, hot & frisky describe this Koko Co. floormat. The bright and modern design would provide the perfect colorful pop in a gazebo or screened porch ~ so fun!
I just know that warmer temperatures will return and soon we’ll all be enjoying our outdoor spaces! Should you desire assistance designing or styling your outdoor space this year, do contact me ~ I’d love to collaborate with you!

Pamela's Posh Picks: Kate Spade Dinnerware
Mar 29 2012 ·0With the Easter holiday and traditional Easter dinner “hopping” closer, I’ve been thinking about beautiful tableware once again. I love to create festive, elegant table settings and this week’s Posh Picks from Kate Spade’s Home Decor line will help you do just that…
Don’t you love this painterly black & white pattern? Placed on a bright linen tablecloth, this china adds a dash of whimsical sophistication to your holiday table:
This simple bow pattern is more traditional. It reminds me of the sweet bows my Emily used to wear in her hair, especially with her Easter dress.
Of course if you’d like a more contemporary look you could pair the Grace Avenue china with this bright yellow accent plate:
Wickford Sea Cliffs Stripe Accent Plate
This yellow pattern just smiles ~ I think this is the perfect plate for a Santa Rosa Salad, full of greenery and orange peppers (my friend Amy’s delicious recipe).
Let’s continue the creativity by using the yellow stripe plate yet again with my next pick…
Larabee Road black accent plate:
Layering different patterns and mixing and matching your plates, glassware and table dressing helps to create interest and drama, setting the “stage” for a lovely gathering.
Finally, as the children hop down the bunny trail in search of bounty for their Easter baskets, you can serve dessert and coffee. Presented in these wonderful artisan cups, you can ensure your meal will come to a memorable conclusion.
Illustrated Step Brightly Cup & Saucer Set:
I encourage you to have a colorful and creative time dressing your Easter table this year!

Pamela's Posh Picks: MacKenzie-Childs, Spring 2012
Mar 24 2012 ·0A brand new catalog arrived this week from one of my all-time favorite companies, MacKenzie-Childs. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know how much I love anything from MacKenzie-Childs (in fact I wrote about their Flower Market line last Spring). All of their pieces are imbued with a whimsical, colorful, uber-creative spirit that I so adore. Browsing through their latest catalog, I fell in love all over again. Without further ado, I present this week’s Posh Picks from MacKenzie-Childs!
The Merrifield chandelier is adorned with ceramic birds, colored prisms and wands and a crystal bobeche on each arm. So over the top, so amazing, can you stand it?? This chandelier is one of those pieces that the more you look at it, the more you see. So many beautiful layers of craftsmanship! The Merrifield chandelier is definitely “tripping the light fantastic”!
In a product category that lacks imagination, this fireplace screen is a true standout! I love everything about this piece, from the hand painted ceramic pears to the black and white checked feet. So beautiful, so imaginative!
This vibrant rug will add pizazz to whatever space it graces. Whether placed in a pantry, a laundry room or an entry, this rug is sure to make you smile at the sight of it
Flower Market Triple Wall Hook:
I’d never misplace my keys again if I had this charmingly delightful enamel wall hook to hang them on!
Epaulet Accent Table:To me, this Epaulet accent table epitomizes the MacKenzie-Childs style. It is whimsical and beautifully executed. I adore the be-ribboned drawer pull and how the table legs look to be wearing tap shoes ~ such elegant fun! Beauty, function and really, everything you could ever want in a side table, don’t you think?
I hope you’ve enjoyed browsing through this week’s Posh Picks from MacKenzie-Childs. Do take a peek at their website and treat yourself to some beautiful browsing ~ maybe you’ll find something you can’t live without. After all, every home can use at least one MacKenzie-Childs piece!

Pamela's Posh Picks: Rolf Benz Studio
Mar 16 2012 ·0One of Europe’s most prestigious brands of contemporary furniture, Rolf Benz, has made its grand arrival at the Boston Design Center! Managed by the outstanding and much loved Gary Riegel, Rolf Benz Studio is the exclusive dealer for Rolf Benz, as well as European brands Draenert and TEAM 7, in the Boston area. I had the great pleasure of visiting this sleek new showroom recently and found my latest Posh Picks.
The furniture from Rolf Benz of Germany is simultaneously modern and timeless and the pieces are stylish~with a secret. It is truly magical, you just have to see the tricks these pieces perform to believe your eyes. What appears to be a sofa can transform effortlessly into a bed or even a recliner (and a sexy looking one at that!). Take a look…
My first Posh Pick is the Rolf Benz 4500:
The sensual rounded surfaces give this sofa an unconventional look that invites limitless relaxation, don’t you think?
Next, the Rolf Benz Onda:
The Onda is as versatile as it is flowing, with individual, modular pieces that can accommodate any floor plan.
The Rolf Benz Plura:
Now this piece is remarkable. Features include a fold out side arm and a swiveling seat along with a backwards and upwards adjustable back. Got that?? You can lounge, sit, recline, or sleep on this beautiful, multi-functional sofa~ now that’s a bargain!
My Posh Pick here is the fab circle carpet:
Paired with another Rolf Benz sectional, it makes a bold and graphic statement.
My final Posh Pick is the Coco chair by Draenert: Don’t you just love the S-line curves of this modern chair? And it’s comfortable too! German engineering succeeds in cars and furniture!
Of course the best way to experience this fabulous furniture is to visit Gary and Holly at Rolf Benz Studio for a demonstration and a walk around this lush new showroom. Contact me, I’d be glad to accompany you!

Pamela's Posh Picks: Wall Sconces
Mar 08 2012 ·0For this week’s edition of Posh Picks, I’ve chosen to highlight some of my favorite wall sconces from Currey & Company. I love the versatility of wall sconces and the seemingly endless variety of design choices available. Currey & Company is one of my go-to resources for lighting, always providing top quality and such beautiful designs.
Let’s get to the Posh Picks!
Pembroke ~ One Light Wall Sconce
The Pembroke sconce is smart, contemporary, modern, and sure to work perfectly in a wide range of spaces. This sconce would be marvelous above a nightstand in a bedroom. Then again, it would be equally at home in a foyer–perhaps a pair of Pembrokes above a console table flanking a fabulous piece of artwork!
Goddess ~ Two Light Wall Sconce
As wonderful as this bead-enhanced sconce is on its own, I would love to add lampshades! I could easily see an animal print or tangerine shades on this sconce–just imagine the added pizzazz! I envision the Goddess in a foyer, in a bedroom entry or perhaps most fittingly, in a luxurious bathroom. Placed at eye level on either side of a mirror, what a glam spot for getting ready for the day–or evening!
The bold lines of this sconce coupled with stylish details such as the ball finial and moody black shade make this the perfect sconce for a library or tailored office. As part of an integrated illumination design, the Primo would add style and function to a custom bookcase niche. Another design option would be to hang this sconce on the side of above-desk cabinets, with the electrical housed within the cabinetry. While not suitable for task lighting, this type of sconce placement makes a bold design statement and enlivens an otherwise unused space.
Dorset ~ One Light Wall Sconce
With its tailored, globally-influenced style, this sconce provides soft and chic lighting. A group of Dorset sconces would be perfect for a media room. Arranged in a deliberate, artful grouping, either randomly staggered or installed in a linear pattern, these sconces would add the perfect touch of ambiance, function, and style!
Quantum ~ Two Light Wall Sconce
This playful yet sophisticated sconce would be ideal in a Master Bathroom. Placed on either side of a mirror or flanking a window over a luxurious bathtub, the glass “beads” of the Quantum are reminiscent of delicate soap bubbles. What a wonderful reminder to relax, take a deep breath, and let your cares float away…
Tiny bubbles…Make me happy, Make me feel fine…

Pamela's Posh Picks: Kravet Soleil Fabrics
Feb 27 2012 ·0I must be basking in the afterglow of my trip to South Beach, because I’ve still got sun and warm weather on my mind. This mild New England winter is such a tease, warm days out on the terrace can’t be far away!
Kravet Soleil is a line of indoor/outdoor fabric that marries style and modern technology making it an equally perfect choice for outdoor furniture or family-loved indoor pieces. I absolutely adore the colors these fabrics come in, as well as the playful, modern designs. UV protection, superior durability, and stain resistance all merge to make these fabrics uber-functional. What an outstanding combination!
Here are some of my favorites from the Kravet Soleil Lifestyles collection, the fabric names alone will put you in a tropical mood!
Love the lively turquoise colors and the geometric prints~ where can you envision these fabrics?
The use of neutrals on these lounge chairs with the punch of citron on the umbrellas is so tropical, love it!
A clothesline peek of the fabric line~ which ones might you pick for your terrace, boat or deck? They’re all so fun and fashionable, surely there’s not a bad choice amongst them!

Pamela's Posh Picks: Beach Totes
Feb 18 2012 ·0Our mild Massachusetts winter and the ocean view out my windows has me dreaming of summer! I’m so looking forward to sunshine, sand between my toes and long, lazy days at the beach. Of course I’ll be needing a new bag to tote all my essentials: towel, sun block, bubble gum, book, shades, lipstick, iPhone, journal of secrets heard and kept…
Here are a few of my Posh Picks for Beach Totes!
Kate Spade’s Daycation tote~ Love the name (A daycation? Yes, please!) and who can resist this bright and cheerful pink?
Bring The Sun from Juicy Couture. I think the name says it all, so bright and cheerful with a hint of sparkle!
This Resort Stripe tote by Deux Lux is pure Beach Glam!
Gotta love a bag with a graphic design featuring “sunnies” as Rachael Zoe would say~
Marc Jacobs Spectacle Painted Canvas Beach Bag from Saks
I will always love an awning stripe bag and this one by DKNY in orange is tres chic!
In just a few short months it will be time to pack up our totes and enjoy days by the beach. Which beach tote would you use??

Pamela's Posh Picks: Color of the Year, Tangerine
Feb 06 2012 ·0Pantone Color Institute, known for its trendsetting color predictions, recently announced its 2012 Color of the Year: TANGERINE TANGO
What a glorious color it is! According to Pantone, “Tangerine Tango is a spirited reddish orange, it provides the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward…”
During a recent visit to the Sherwin Williams studio at the Boston Design Center I selected some outstanding tangerine-hued paint colors from this warm palette. I just know one of these would look great in your next project. Take a peek and let me know your favorites~
Oh how I love the boldness of this color! Not shy or retiring, Daring makes a perfect accent paint. I can envision it for a piece of furniture, the edges of a frame or a fab pop of color inside a bookcase.
Mandarin has undertones of yellow which makes it a bit more of a safe choice. It’s a great choice for a wall or a floor in a solarium or even a ceiling. Such a fun color, use your imagination!
This is a true tangerine to my eye: bright, vibrant and warm. Navel would be perfect for a pair of Adirondack chairs on the lawn.
In real life this is a reddish-orange and oh so lovely. Quite truthfully I would be tempted to use it just based on its name: Daredevil. I dare you to use this in a dreary pantry or closet. Just think how it would brighten your day and energize your spirit!
With all this thinking about the color of Tangerine I feel the need to go have a nice big bite of one …..

The Hunter Original High Gloss is a favorite for another friend, Deneen. So perfect in pink!
Finally, this Crayola-colorful Carmindy rain boot by Jessica Swift is my pick for splashing in the puddles!
I’m singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain What a glorious feelin’

Each week (or so), I’ll share some of my favorite things with you from the world of design. Whether it’s a product category, designs for a particular room in the home or variations on a design idea, I’ll pick my favorites and highlight them here.

This cover by Cath Kidston is so appealing~ I wish this was available when my darling Em was studying in London… how lovely!
Who can resist this Chanel evening iPhone cover dressed in Swarovski crystals?
Oh what the heck, use it daily~isn’t a day dripping in diamonds, crystals and glitter a FAB day? I certainly think so!
I did promise a cover option for everyone…
My rock star son Fred, now playing RENT on 3 keyboards at Shadowbox Theater, would love this skull and crossbones design~ it’s edgy and modern, don’t you agree?
Of course I *must* include an animal print option~
Tory Burch‘s traditional leopard print embellished with her signature initials makes for a perfectly divine case.
Finally, for those of you still using a Blackberry, don’t fret~
I love the message on this Kate Spade pouch. Go ahead and be a petite rebel!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of Pamela’s Posh Picks~and if you have any recommendations for iPhone apps, I’m all ears!
