A Touch Of Europe Right Here At Home

Every time I step into the Rolf Benz Showroom at the Boston Design Center, I feel like I am in Milano. Why? Because this space is filled with vignettes replete with European flair. The furniture, mostly sofa arrangements, is low, curved and sexy. The fabrics are lush and sumptuous. The simple design details are appealing to the eye. Of course to fully experience and appreciate the luxury and craftsmanship of the pieces, you must sit down on a Rolf Benz sofa. That is just what I, along with several other designers, did on Tuesday at a special presentation in the Rolf Benz showroom…
Rolf Benz Sales Manager Stephanie Geiger (and her most wonderful German accent) gave an informative and articulate presentation on the new products available at the showroom.
This sofa is so inviting with it’s multiple seating options. The depth of the seat offers comfort for the longer legged people and the firm toss pillows offered me support and comfort too.
Love this side view. This sofa can easily be a free floating piece in a loft space or an open floor plan, also note the end table that swivels to accommodate several cocktails.
I adore this sofa called the Linea. Linea impresses with its ‘clear, purist design that blends in beautifully with all kinds of lifestyles’. It is upholstered in Rolf Benz wool ~ a new wool, not scratchy and uncomfortable like your grandmother’s wool. This is a high tech wool that is self cleaning, eco-friendly and soft on your skin. This is a consideration when you think that during the summer months you will be sitting on this sofa with shorts and your skin will be in direct contact with the fabric. You want it to be safe and pure, yes?
This is the Rolf Benz interpretation of a traditional wing chair ~ although I think this version is much more chic! The chair is very graceful and would easily fit into a corner space or cuddle up next to settee. When I sat in it I felt as if I was in a cocoon, very comforting!
The Dono
This sleek, modern arrangement has so much visual appeal that at first glance you don’t realize how magical and functional it truly is. The genius in these pieces really is in the details. For example, the back pillows are curved and placed at a slight angle to support the lower back. The components can also be moved to create different configurations of the seating plan.
The pillows have a non-skid back ~ no more slipping, out of place pillows.
Hidden under the wooden shelf in the photo above is a mechanism to tilt out the bottom of the seat for a semi-reclined position. Isn’t this magical? But that’s not all! I learned yesterday that when this piece converts to a bed, the bottom foam is curved slightly upwards in the back so that the sleeping person does not roll out of the bed. Talk about German engineering… I am so impressed, aren’t you? To be sure, the beautiful wooden shelf is also functional ~ perfect for a lamp, vase, books, or a cup of tea.
I have featured the Rolf Benz showroom before and it continues to be one of my favorites due to the quality, sexiness and drama of the furniture. If you’d like to take a closer look I will be happy to give you a tour!
