A Poem & A Painting: Reflections of Spring

Spring is trying to make its way into the Boston area ~ though it did snow again this weekend! That snow has melted and slowly, so slowly, the earth and the new growth of the season is being revealed…
Spring Pools
These pools that, though in forests, still reflect
The total sky almost without defect,
And like the flowers beside them, chill and shiver,
Will like the flowers beside them soon be gone,
And yet not out by any brook or river,
But up by roots to bring dark foliage on.
The trees that have it in their pent-up buds
To darken nature and be summer woods –
Let them think twice before they use their powers
To blot out and drink up and sweep away
These flowery waters and these watery flowers
From snow that melted only yesterday.
~Robert Frost
Given his subject matter, I think it’s pretty easy to tell that Robert Frost was from New England!
Today’s painting is actually another one of my drawings from class. Multiple design projects means less time for painting on the weekend. This is a final still life which incorporates all of the surfaces we “studied” ~shining reflective metal, see-through glass with something inside and fabric, a stripe at that.
Eeekkkk, I really loved this class with Judy Rossman at the South Shore Art Center.
Next term: Watercolors and hopefully by next week, more signs of Spring!
xo,
Pamela
