A Poem & A Painting: Pretty

Today’s painting features a Guatemalan child we all called Pretty, because she was just that, inside and out. She was always smiling as she followed our team during our building days in her village. Pretty radiated kindness and a gentle manner beyond her years.
Among the team there was talk about whether or not the children in the village were happy and if they knew they lived in such poverty with a limited future. The popular opinion was that they were happy because they just didn’t know. As I looked at Pretty and into her eyes I felt that she knew there was something better in the world for her…she just didn’t know what~
“As the tears fall down my face,
Without her I am so out of place.
As my chest tighten,
And my dreams frighten.
She doesn’t know how much I care…
I love her….”

This painting was inspired by a photo by Chasen West for Kandrac and Kole
It has taken me a while to process, but this week I will be sharing more details, reflections and photos from my trip to Guatemala last month. Be sure to check back, it was another unforgettable experience…
