A Poem & A Painting: Guatemala Sisters
Jun 09 2014 · 0 comments · A Poem & A Painting ·0
As I get ready for my 2nd mission trip to Guatemala next week, I am filled with emotion. I am looking forward to re-connecting with the Greene family and other friends who live there as well as the family whose home we built last year. That being said, this year I know the emotional tug the children have on my heart and how I have carried their struggles home with me. I thought this beautiful poem I found would be particularly appropriate…
Guatemala
Dew in the morning light
A mist lay over the ground
Sunrise Sunset
Sweet precious joy
Light rains falls over a canopy of ancient trees
Birds sing praises to mother nature
The smell of fire fills the air
The warmth of laughter in voices far away
Peaceful waves caress the earth
Stars sparkle like diamonds
Nothing seems real
Everything seems true
The way life was meant to be
The less we have, the more we gain
Sky wide open
Love like blood
Thick, ever-flowing
Saturating this country
Healing its wounds
We can never forget
We aren’t meant to
The past is unchangeable
Etched in stone
What lies ahead will always be smoke
The moment before awakening
Unsure, unclear
But there will always be the sun
Warmth, light and life
Reaching for those who have lost hope
Giving strength to the hurt
Bringing light to the dark
Changing hate to love
Giving us the power to see another day

One of my favorite images from my trip last year inspired this painting…
I am thankful for your good thoughts, prayers and virtual hugs! xo, Pamela
