30 Paintings in 30 Days!
September has been an incredible month for me! I have taken on a new client, I have re-connected with a client from 15 years ago, as well as designing for my existing clients and I have been collaborating with my daughter on her wedding plans. AND in addition to all these exciting undertakings, I have somehow managed to paint 30 Paintings in 30 Days! Phew!
This is the second time this year I have participated in this challenge from Leslie Saeta. Am I crazy? To make this commitment to myself is something I truly thought about before embarking on this Challenge. This must say something about me. What that is, well, let’s not get into that!…
As I post the collage, “ A Melange of Paintings”, I have to admit that I am proud. There were some days that I was not proud of my work. There are a couple of paintings in the collage I would prefer not to have posted but I believe that was the purpose of this challenge ~to paint everyday, complete the canvas, and post it!
My painting skills have definitely improved. Remember that saying, Practice makes perfect? I developed my ability to compose a painting for a 6”x6” canvas, sketch it in quickly, and then go for the paints. Most days, I only had an hour to devote and working with oils can make this difficult because of painting ‘wet on wet’. However, I learned how to do this and it harkens back to the lessons of a teacher I’ve had in the past: paint thin then thick.
With the previous Challenge back in January, I had a very specific theme: Interiors. This time I decided not to be so rigid in my subject selections because there were so many topics I wanted to paint. Sometimes I am asked what genre I paint. I usually respond that I am not so proficient that I have one (yet)…I am drawn to still life, faces and whatever strikes my fancy.
Looking back, this month has been terrific on all levels and I am sorry to see the painting challenge end. Of course, my friend Lisa Daria has painted EVERY day for years. Perhaps she will continue to be my inspiration for painting many more days a week!
Thank you all for your support and wonderful comments ~ they were (and are) very much appreciated, especially on days when my motivation was sagging!
xo,
Pamela
