Posh Peek: A Look Inside My Day with Tina Ghiz

It seems we took a Summer hiatus from the Posh Peek feature, but I am so happy that it is back ~ and with none other than my dear, dear friend and Organizer Extraordinaire, Tina Ghiz of The Container Store!
You may recall that Tina is the mastermind behind my own Dream Accessories Closet design…
And yes, it still looks this neat and organized 3 years later!
How does she do it? Let’s take a Posh Peek inside Tina’s day…
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’ve been married to Richard for 27 years, in fact {this past Sunday} was our anniversary. I am mother of 2 children: Alexandra, 24 and Olivia, 20. I’ve worked at The Container Store since 2005, 9 years and counting.
Can you give us a Posh Peek inside your typical day at The Container Store?
Most of my day is spent helping people to realize how organized and beautiful their closets can be. As the saying goes “As beautiful on the inside…” and that is my area of design.
I have always committed time and thought to keeping spaces behind closed doors as beautiful as the space outside those doors. Those behind-the-door spaces include closets, cabinets and my favorite, the “Junk Drawer”. I have renamed it the misc. drawer because most of what we keep there is the stuff we need to find quickly and being organized will save you time. My eyes light up when someone asks if I can help them with their drawer organization, it is my specialty!
My primary focus at The Container Store is to introduce customers to ELFA, our closet and organizational system. We offer our customers the opportunity to “up” their organizational game with ELFA. We want you to love your closet and our Custom Design Center allows just that: closets that are as beautiful as they are organized!
Describe your workspace. How does it typically look?
The Container Store is a very “neat” place to work!
One of the things that I like most about working there is that it is always tidy and organized. In addition to helping customers with their organizational needs, everyone who works there, regardless of their formal role, is expected to help make the store look “Grand Opening Ready” everyday.
I am always busy, either designing closets with a customer or helping others with their organizational needs but when I have a free moment I am straightening some shelf somewhere in the store. It’s a lot of work striving for perfection!
Did you know at a young age that you wanted to work as a Professional Organizer? Were there many detours along the way?
While I couldn’t have envisioned this type of workplace when I was young, it does seem like the perfect place for me. I did love to play “office” as a child and what I loved about it was keeping all my “important things” neat and organized! After my first career with Clinique I knew that I wanted to be a Professional Organizer and started to research how I could realize that goal. Back then, it wasn’t all that common and it was hard to imagine how I would get people to pay me to organize their stuff! Another opportunity for a business came my way with an easier path so I took it, but I knew that making a career from organizing would make me happy. Then The Container Store opened in this area. I do not exaggerate when I say that it took my breath away and I knew I would have to work there!
Now for a few fun questions…
If you had an ice cream flavor named for you, what would it be called?
If I were an ice cream flavor, it would have to be chocolate!
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
If I could have a superpower it would be hyper-focus! I have pretty good focus but if it were more intense I would waste less time and accomplish more!
Mac or PC?
I am a Mac girl all the way, iPhone also.
What would the title of your biography be?
“Dancing Queen”!
Thank you, Tina! I have to totally agree with that last answer 😉 !
I can attest that Tina is a top-notch organizer and Closet Designer ~ I’m sure she’d love to see you the next time you visit The Container Store in Natick. If you’re looking to organize your space as part of a larger project, contact me and we can all work together to create something that is both beautiful and functional!
xo,
Pamela
