Posh Peek: A Look Inside My Day with Artist Lisa Daria Kennedy

I’ve known Lisa Daria Kennedy for many years and have been privileged to see her dedication and talent develop and evolve over this time. Whether through her daily paintings, our Girls Just Wanna Paint group, or her warm friendship, Lisa’s genuine spirit and appreciation for simple beauty shines through. Did I mention she has a wicked sense of humor?? Lisa is a successful working artist and teacher and I hope you enjoy this Posh Peek at her day!
5am Daily Painting Ritual, #1821
Keeping it simple first thing in the morning with a roll of paper towels as a makeshift easel.
Yes, that would be the coffee pot propping up my ‘easel’.
11am I walk Brie twice a day. Does she look excited?

Describe your workspace. How does it typically look?
My studio is a renovated potting shed, so it has a lot of natural light. It is not neat but rather an unmitigated disaster. Papers cover the floor, dried brushes line the workbench and I’m usually working on three or four big paintings at once. My daily painting practice, however, takes place at the kitchen counter at 5AM. These paintings require the very opposite working conditions ~ a tidy workspace without any clutter and since I’m making them very early in the morning– and plenty of coffee!
Did you know at a young age that you wanted to be an artist? Were there many detours along the way?
I drew as a child (hundreds of drawings of Snoopy) but it wasn’t until college that I was exposed to art. College was the best ten years of my life – I changed my major five times! My most defining moment occurred while taking an elective illustration class at Rhode Island School of Art and Design. It was a humbling experience, as I had never taken an illustration course before and my skill was subpar. It was then that I decided to enroll full-time at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, a dedicated art college. Since then I’ve worked as a commercial and fine artist.
Now for the hard-hitting queries… 😉
If you were an ice cream, what flavor would you be?
I would not be avocado (don’t ask!). Marshmallow
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
To be able to eat carbs (while flying of course). {Love this! ~PC}
Mac or PC? iPhone or …?
Mac since 1992!
If a biography was written about you, what would the title be?
If Someone Told You to Dye Your Hair Pink, Would You?
Wow, what a wonderful Posh Peek! Thank you so much to Lisa for sharing her day, I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I loved sharing it.

Lisa Daria Kennedy grew up along the Northeast edge of the Hockomock Swamp in Massachusetts.
Since 2009, she has been committed to an on-going daily painting project in which she creates one small acrylic painting a day. As a young adult cancer survivor, she discovered living is not just surviving. The small, intimate paintings of everyday subjects seek to give a voice to the fiber of the everyday.
Kennedy received a BA from Roger Williams University (1995) in Graphic Design, a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Illustration (1998), and an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2D (2013). She has worked as a product and surface designer in the international giftware industry. Currently she is the Design Editor for the literary publication, Mount Hope and an Adjunct Professor at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
