Dekton My Deck, Please!

It is that time of the year again (Hallelujah!) when all of my personal design attention turns toward my deck that overlooks Nantasket Beach.
I can’t wait to select my plantings for my container gardens, set up my lush, green lawn (no cutting required) and my new pool~
However, before the fun part of the design can begin, it is necessary to clean up after the ravages of the winter ~ and what a winter it was! This winter’s cold temperatures, snow and ice certainly took its toll on my deck surface, just take a look:
When I saw this, I could’ve cried. This 650 sq. ft. deck was just sanded, stained, and revarnished last year. Look at the shape it’s in today. The harsh winter conditions of New England and the salty ocean air are not friendly to a mahogany wood deck. What’s a girl to do?
Well, after BlogTourMilan I have a brilliant, if I do say so myself, idea!
Dekton my deck, please!
Cosentino, has created a revolutionary product called Dekton, a large format ultra-compact surface. It is truly amazing.
Dekton features:
- high UV resistance (no sun fading)
- high scratch resistance (great for sliding sun chairs on my deck)
- resistant to stains (excellent for the occasional spilled sangria)
- high resistance to fire and heat (great safety feature if I ever grilled ~ although I doubt I ever will!)
- resistant to abrasion (from sand and salt in the air)
- resistant to ice and thawing (perfect for extreme weather!)
What exactly is this Superhero of Surfaces?
“Dekton is a sophisticated blend of the raw materials used to produce the very latest in glass and porcelain as well as the highest quality quartz work surfaces.” The large format makes Dekton perfect for sizable areas and surfaces, indoors or out. After being introduced to Dekton in person in Milan and then coming home and seeing the damage to my deck, I was inspired to create a brand new design for my summer Living Area using Dekton!
Take a look:
A few details…
I envision the deck floor in Ariane, a soft grey (resembling a faded Cape Cod shingle) with some texture so as not to lose your balance while doing the Cupid Shuffle.
If I want to get fancy, I could do awning stripes or another pattern on the floor, but I have a better idea…
My deck is quite long so I can easily divide it into thirds
In the center area I would create a bar. It would be bar height (42”) with stools in the center. On either side would be a counter at stand-up height (36”). I would also love to incorporate chilling troughs made of Dekton to keep wine or vodka bottles chilling on ice. I can almost taste the Cosmos now!
To add interest, I’ve sketched an inset diamond pattern fabricated out of Dekton in Zenith (off white)
with the surrounding area done in Dekton in Sirocco
I think this would be a wonderful use of this technologically advanced, virtually indestructible product. And it would get me back to entertaining in style this summer~
What do you think of my design? I think it would be a perfect finishing touch to my outdoor living area ~ along with family & friends of course! The design possibilities and applications with Dekton are truly exciting. How would you use Dekton??
Once again, thank you to Dekton, Modenus, and all the BlogTour Milan sponsors!
xo,
Pamela
