Last week at the Boston Design Center, the Furn & Co showroom presented a seminar featuring the creative and beautiful wallpapers from Studio Printworks. President Dennis Shah gave a very enthusiastic presentation about his company and the hand silk screen process that is still taking place today in Hoboken, N.J.
This printing process is done painstakingly by hand and with great pride as you can see from this photo:
Here you see the pouring of the paint, just enough not to “pool” or puddle on the paper
The paper is then smoothed
Here is the fun part: the printing of the template design
Ahhh, a long run for a tall wall
Yes, some wallpapers have more than 1 color so that means they are printed 1 time for each color…
I adore the idea that this old-world art of creating wallpaper by silk screen can produce a new, modern-world design like this skull damask.
Mr. Shah told the story that a client wanted a “skull” motif, so he took a traditional damask design, eliminated the center flower, and replaced it with a graphic skull. It’s ingenious! Don’t you think? I love this design, and you really have to look for it on a “run”. I may just have to use it in my Powder Room!
Studio Printworks is a company with an eye toward the future. They are working closely with clients and designers alike to collaborate on custom products. They also offer digital papers.
I’ll leave you with one more favorite, perfect for a Gentleman’s Study, complete with cowboys, football helmuts and a sense of humor!
Who could ask for more?

Pamela
