Posh Palettes Presentation Panel: Emerald

As you’ve probably heard, the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year is Emerald Green.
To arrive at their choice, Pantone does not use scientific formulas or equations, rather the team researches and looks for influences throughout the world in film, art collections, travel and even global sporting events. According to Pantone’s press release, “Emerald is a vivid, verdant green {which} enhances a sense of well being further by inspiring insight as well as promoting balance and harmony…For centuries many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.”
My latest Posh Palettes Presentation Panel illustrates some of my favorite shades of Emerald green along with a few complimentary colors.
This is going to be a great color to explore this year!
When I was thinking about ideas for my Emerald board, the very first thing that popped right into my head was the Emerald City from the Wizard of Oz. When I was a little girl, each year around Easter the movie was on television. I always remember the transformation of the film from black & white to color when Dorothy and her companions reach the Land of Oz. The magical sight of the Emerald City and its verdant hue was so spectacular to me. Oh how I loved that movie, my sisters and I knew all the words and played all the parts!
So of course I had to include a photo of the Emerald City on my panel. I also included one of my petite paintings, a portrait of a woman with green eyes. Did you know only 2% of the world’s population has green eyes? Did you also know that I am part of that small group??
In my designs, I anticipate working with Emerald in small doses, as a complement. I am especially drawn to Emerald paired with Cobalt Blue, as shown in the fabric below. Quite striking, don’t you think?Another wonderful Emerald accent would be this malachite wall covering by Cole and Son (available at Lee Jofa). Such an outstanding use of emerald and ivory black…
This wallcovering would pop on a focal wall in a bath or perhaps a study with glossy black walls lined with bookcases. You could use this on a ceiling with a cobalt interior~ the options are seemingly endless…
Ahhh, the limes and my brooch. One of the best places to find shades of emerald is in nature. I find that a design truly shines when you include a bit of nature. Natural elements breathe life into your interior. You can even brings the outdoors in ~ an especially nice touch in colder areas where we are yearning for warmer weather. Come here emerald green…
“My people have been wearing green glasses on their eyes for so long that most of them think, this really is an Emerald City.”
L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
