BlogTour KBIS 2017: Metrie & the Art of Form

Having lived all my life in New England with it’s historic and often austere homes, most of which feature an architectural style devoid of ostentatious detail, when I visited Europe I was overwhelmed with the architectural details of the homes & chateaus in Europe. So many beautiful elements! The mouldings and trims that were layered and gilded truly caught my designer’s eye. I’ve taken that influence and made it part of my own design style and encourage clients to embellish ceiling lines, door frame casings and baseboards with multiple architectural trims in their homes as well.
As you can imagine, I was thrilled to tour the booth of BlogTour KBIS sponsor Metrie at the KBIS show. Since 1926, Metrie has been helping transform spaces with exquisitely crafted architectural trim. The exhibit of Metrie’s wood and composite architectural elements collections that include “perfectly coordinated and proportional elements to ensure every piece aligns properly with minimal effort” was once again overwhelming for me ~ in a good way!
This is a game changer for my design work. As a rule, when I design a project the mouldings, casings and baseboards are created with separate pieces of milled wood. We combine them to create the profile we are after, however this approach can be challenging. The proportion of all the millwork pieces is key and it’s not always easy to achieve a balanced look.

However, the Metrie products take the guesswork out of designing moldings. The best part is that Metrie products are not only beautiful and versatile, but also easy and affordable. Fab!
One of my favorite walls to design is actually the “5th wall” ~ better known as the ceiling. The ceiling is an uninterrupted space (no furnishings or rugs) so I always treat this area with wallcovering or paint and mouldings.
I am so looking forward to adding interest and drama to my wall and ceiling designs with Metrie’s crown and panel moulding. I can’t wait…
To make this creative process even easier, Metrie has already created five Then and Now Finishing Collections ~already in perfect proportion!
- Fashion Forward: chic, balanced and contemporary
2. French Curves: glam and ornate
3. Pretty Simple: charming and traditional
4. True Craft: simple, linear
5. Very Square: crisp, modern, and clean
Let the fun begin 🙂 .
For even more inspiration, I invite you to visit the Inspiration Gallery on the Metrie website ~ so many beautiful spaces and ideas!
Thank you to Metrie, Modenus, and all of the other wonderful sponsors of BlogTour KBIS 2017.
