Historic Hingham Home: Kitchen & Stairwell Update

Today we are wrapping up our tour of the Historic Hingham Home that I had the pleasure of updating along with my client. Previously, I shared the finished Family Room, as well as the Media Room. The final two spaces we refreshed were the Kitchen and the back Stairwell.
The “bones” of this beautiful Kitchen were already in place: high-end appliances, granite countertops, subway tile backsplash, a great layout, and updated cabinetry. The changes we made in the kitchen were cosmetic, involving paint and fabric.
The kitchen is expansive with the main area being open to the Family Room. We updated the kitchen wall paint to a softer but similar shade as the Family Room. The cabinetry was also given a fresh coat of white paint.
The most impactful update we did in the Kitchen involved window treatments. We selected a linen blend fabric by Duralee from the Tilton Fenwick collection. The beautiful colors and pattern are the perfect compliment to the space. We did two valances, a longer one over the sink and a smaller one in the desk area.
Both valances are tailored to fit my client’s style, but with a slight curve to soften the lines. I am always so impressed by the excellent craftsmanship of the seamstresses in the workroom I use ~ notice how the pattern is perfectly centered over the window. The coordinated piping along the top of each valance adds just the right finishing touch.
The final space we worked on in this Antique Colonial home was the back staircase. This is actually one of three staircases in the home, and the one that is used most frequently as it leads to the children’s bedrooms. What better pattern to showcase in a historic home than stars on a blue rug?
I absolutely love how this turned out! It is light, bright, and happy, but still in keeping with the style of the home. The stair runner also coordinates beautifully with the slate flooring in the back entry hall.
The experts from Colony Rug once again did an excellent job with fabrication and installation of this custom cut stair runner. Note the small reveal (how much of the existing floor that shows through) ~ the hardwood was not in the best condition so they cut the rug wider to cover it.
I really had a ball working on this project. I have the best clients with the most exquisite taste and I am so grateful!

Pamela
