“A good painting to me has always been like a friend. It keeps me company, comforts
and inspires.”
~Hedy Lamarr
For me, an interior design isn’t finished until the artwork has been installed. Art is the perfect finishing touch, imbuing a space with personality, color and life. In my area, south of Boston, we have a wonderful creative community. Whether it be oils, watercolors, acrylic or mixed media, we are blessed with artists who create with ease and great talent.
This past Sunday I attended an opening reception for one of these artists who is also a friend, Lisa Daria Kennedy. Lisa has painted every day for 657 days and counting. Her story and her work are truly inspiring.
At the opening, held at Bella’s Restaurant in Rockland, MA, the walls were filled with Lisa’s paintings: still lifes, landscapes and interiors. Lisa’s compositions are unusual and interesting and her use of color draws the viewer’s eye into the work.
This group of paintings is done in Lisa’s usual square format. Notice how beautiful the glass in each painting is~ it sparkles with a highly skilled and simple brush stroke. Wouldn’t this grouping be perfect in a hallway? A pantry? Or side-by-side at eye level? Oh the possibilities!
These two landscapes were painted ‘en plein are’ (in the open air) in one excursion. Looking at these paintings I can almost feel the sun with the glow and luminescence of Lisa’s paint colors. Mmmmmm…
This piece, titled ‘Sugar Shaker’, is the largest painting I have ever seen Lisa do measuring 36”x48”. It is truly breathtaking in person, in fact the apples are so well done I wanted to pick one off the tablecloth and take a bite!
I have to admit this interior scene is my very favorite of Lisa’s paintings. I really do love my job and design is in the very fiber of my being at this point! This down-filled sofa, bathed in late afternoon light, is so welcoming, so wonderful.
Finally, here is the amazing and beautiful (inside and out) artist herself, Lisa Daria Kennedy. Remember her name and do stop by her show at Bella’s and take home a painting for your interior!

Pamela
